Move by Nature ![]() Improvisation is a kind of action-reaction game. The fun is to provoke a first- undeliberate reaction to an unexpected event. But for the autonomous artist the unexpected becomes predicatable after the first action. The information-loop is closed and the brain is two steps ahead of the situation and already knows what it will do next The challenge is to apply the advantage of external information as in collaborations to the autonomous process. As a possible solution I have used a kind of DIY chaotic number generator and a grid as a more or less programmable co-player. ![]() |
The chaotic number generator(CNG) produces a sequence of numbers that correspond to sections on a grid. Together these sections generate a trend or flow. By treating this trend as a message communicated by a second player this provokes a response, and an action-reaction oscillation is established. Responses may vary from amplifying or feeding forward the trend, going against- or by ignoring it. ![]() Line based grids Somewhat similar to playing chess against a computer except in this case the goal is to create a kind of stalemate equilibrium with maximum dynamic tension and there is liberty in creating the layout of the field/grid. The grid can be build using CNG and may be based on canvas size, tape size or centimeters. The use of a chaotic number generator on one side motivates organisation on the opposite side of the spectre. |
